Toen ik aankwam op het treinstation in Amsterdam, had ik het gevoel dat ik al een halve dag had gewerkt: mijn zoontje was &#8217;s nachts een paar keer wakker geworden en ik was doodmoe. Die ochtend gaf ik hem snel eten, kleedde hem aan en bracht hem naar het dagverblijf. Ik moest rennen om mijn bus naar Amsterdam te halen.<\/p>\n<p>Toen ik op het treinstation aankwam, bedacht ik me dat ik geen idee had hoe de komende tijd eruit zou gaan zien. Mijn relatie was een tijdje geleden be\u00ebindigd en om problemen te voorkomen had ik met mijn zoontje Mike op verschillende plaatsen gewoond. Ik was de kostwinner en op het werk waren er ook wat problemen. Bovendien waren mijn ouders ziek geweest en waren er veel andere dingen die mijn aandacht vroegen.<br \/>\nOp die dag, besloot ik om in plaats van door te rennen naar het perron vanuit de bus nog even een kop koffie te halen. Ik bestelde een Latte Macchiato en liep naar het perron. De trein kwam net aan. Ik loop langs twee conducteurs, een grote stevige en een wat kleinere. De stevige man zegt, als ik diep in gedachten langsloop: \u201cO lekker, wat fijn dat je koffie voor me hebt gehaald!\u201d Ik kijk op, steek mijn hand uit met de latte en zeg: \u201cIs goed hoor, het is wel een Latte, is dat OK?\u201d Hij lacht en zegt: \u201cNee hoor, het was een grapje\u201d. Ik zeg: \u201cHet mag wel hoor, misschien heeft u hem wel harder nodig dan ik\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A short time later I had taken a seat in the silent section of the train with my laptop open, sipping from the Latte the train conductor kindly declined. Even later zit ik in de stiltecoup\u00e9 met mijn laptop open. De conducteur komt langs en geeft me twee vrijkaartjes voor de Hoge Snelheidslijn. Hij zegt: \u201cDat vond ik zo verrassend dat je me je koffie wilde geven, de meeste mensen zeggen: \u201cNee, nee die is voor mezelf\u201d en lopen door. Ik bedank de conducteur hartelijk.<br \/>\nDit gebeurde een paar jaar geleden, en hoewel het geen leuke dag in mijn leven was, is dit wat ik me het levendigst herinner van die dag. Ik denk er nog steeds met positieve gevoelens aan terug. Vaak zal de ontvanger als de gelegenheid zich voordoet ook weer iets aardigs terug willen doen. Via het principe van \u201cPay it forward\u201d kan het ook \u201cpositive ripple effects\u201d op de samenleving zelf hebben. Mijn idee was wel dat vooral de spontaniteit ervan belangrijk is. Pay it forward houdt in dat als je zelf een positieve ervaring hebt, doordat iemand jou met een \u201crandom act of kindness\u201d heeft verblijd, jij datzelfde ook weer bij anderen doet als de gelegenheid zich voordoet.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-3 fusion_builder_column_1_2 1_2 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-width-large:50%;--awb-margin-top-large:10px;--awb-spacing-right-large:3.84%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:10px;--awb-spacing-left-large:3.84%;--awb-width-medium:100%;--awb-order-medium:0;--awb-spacing-right-medium:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:1.92%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-order-small:0;--awb-spacing-right-small:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-small:1.92%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-3 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-one\" style=\"--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:20px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;\"><h1 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"margin:0;text-transform:capitalize;--fontSize:50;line-height:var(--awb-typography1-line-height);\"><h3><strong>De challenge<\/strong><\/h3><\/h1><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p>Kijk de komende week of de gelegenheid zich voordoet om iets aardigs voor een ander te doen; al is het maar vragen of iemand hulp nodig heeft die je met iets zwaars ziet sjouwen, of schrijf een dankbaarheidsbrief aan iemand, met de vraag of die ander het ook weer voor iemand anders wil doen. Mocht je weinig tijd hebben, geef dan de komende week gemiddeld \u00e9\u00e9n keer per dag iemand een complimentje. Andere simpele dingen zijn even de (lift)deur voor iemand openhouden, of maak eens tijd voor een goed gesprek.
